Map & Location Search Integration

Google Places, autocomplete, and map-based search — let users find profiles, listings, or services by location, anywhere in the world.

Discuss Your Project See It Live

When your platform is about who or what is near a place — talent in a city, listings in a region, services in a postcode — location search is the feature that makes it usable. We integrate the Google Places API, address autocomplete, and interactive map search so users can find results by location worldwide, with the geocoding, distance logic, and performance work that makes it feel instant rather than clunky.

The problem

Location search looks simple and rarely is. Raw address text is messy, autocomplete needs wiring up correctly to avoid runaway API costs, map pins need clustering when there are hundreds of results, and distance-based queries can crawl if the database is not indexed for geography. Done badly it is slow, expensive, and inaccurate; done well it is one of the most powerful ways for users to find exactly what they need.

How we build it

We integrate Google Places autocomplete on address and location fields so users pick clean, structured places rather than typing free text, then store proper coordinates for fast geographic queries. Map search gets marker clustering, radius and bounds filtering, and results that update as the user pans and zooms. We manage API usage carefully — caching and debouncing requests — so the feature stays fast and the Google bill stays sensible.

FAQ

Common questions

Can you add map and location search to our existing site or app?

Yes. Location search is often added to an existing platform — a directory, marketplace, or job board — to let users find results by place. We integrate it alongside your current search and filters rather than requiring a rebuild.

Will the Google Places API be expensive to run?

It does not have to be. Uncontrolled autocomplete calls are the usual cause of surprise bills. We debounce and cache requests, store coordinates so repeat lookups are not needed, and configure sensible usage limits — keeping the feature fast and the cost predictable.

Can users search worldwide, not just one country?

Yes. Google Places provides global location data, so users can search by city, region, or postcode anywhere in the world — exactly as we implemented for a global talent platform.
